Crossbeam launches two new unified threat management platforms for medium-sized businesses and the extended enterprise

Newly Expanded C-Series Features High-Performance C12 and C25 UTM Platforms; Delivers True Best-of-Breed UTM Power for Both Internal and External Security

Concord, Mass. – June 5, 2006 - Crossbeam Systems®, Inc., the leader in unified threat management (UTM) for the world’s largest networks, today announced an expansion of its C-Series line of UTM platforms. The C12 and C25, optimized for best-of-breed security applications, are the first products to deliver enterprise-class UTM security to medium-sized businesses and extended large enterprise deployments.

“We have put more than five years of enterprise-class UTM expertise into the C12 and C25 to provide mid-range enterprises with high-end UTM capabilities,” said Peter George, president and CEO of Crossbeam Systems. “These new products are also ideal for deployment on the interior and branch offices of larger enterprise networks, providing our channel partners with the industry’s most complete line of UTM products.”

Featuring the industry’s best price-for-performance, the C12 and C25 are the first UTM platforms for medium-sized businesses optimized to meet the demands of best-of-breed UTM security applications such as anti-virus, IDS/IPS, XML security and URL filtering from security innovators including Check Point, Forum Systems, Trend Micro and Websense.

By enabling deployment of multiple applications on a single platform, the C12 and C25 radically simplify the management and architecture of security infrastructure. This improves overall security posture while also generating cost savings in hardware and personnel when compared to traditional “multiple independent point solutions” deployments.

“Organizations need to maintain best of breed security solutions in highly available and manageable configurations with maximum throughput and reliability,” said Richard Stiennon, chief research analyst at IT-Harvest.

C-Series platforms are purpose-built for security and performance demands in UTM perimeter and LAN infrastructures that require the combined operation of firewall, intrusion protection, and content filtering. The new C-Series also feature:

  • High-port density and a rich array of routing and failover options to ensure complete network interoperability.
  • Strong security features such as StreamProtect, intelligent fail-open, and Virtual Tap enabling robust threat defense while under attack as well as full pre- and post-firewall intrusion protection.
  • High speed packet processing and CPU optimization to accelerate message scanning and Spyware protection, all in 1U rack mounted appliance form factors.
  • Full RoHS compliance.

The C25, the C-Series higher-end platform, features 6 gigabit-per-second firewall throughput and the high-availability and redundancy required for enterprise-class UTM. The C25 has front-access ports and comes in fixed port configurations of 12 copper or 4 copper and 8 fiber gigabit ethernet. The C12 offers 4 gigabits-per-second of performance, also featuring front-access ports and an optional VPN acceleration module.

Pricing and Availability

The C12 is available in July and the C25 is available worldwide immediately from Crossbeam authorized channel partners. The list price for a C12 starts at $11,995 and a C25 is $23,995 with exact pricing depending on configuration and volume.
